Sony Ericsson was developed as a venture between Sony Corporation of Japan and Ericsson of Sweden. The combining of each company’s expertise allowed the two companies to have a better chance in the mobile phone market place. The company still has a good share of the market. Popular features of the companies mobiles include the Cyber-shot cameras which include an auto focus and a flash as standard. The company concentrated on the quality of this camera to set it apart from competitors. Sony Ericcson also concentrated on brining music to the mobile phone,like Sony did with the Walkman device. Like the previous walkman device the Sony Ericsson walkman phones allowed you to have a portable music centre on your phone. These phones allowed you to be in your music centre at the press of a button.
Before the Sony Ericsson venture was started the two companies,Ericsson and Sony competed in the mobile phone market place. Sony had a very small share although it was a very large company with many other products. Ericsson had a large share of the market but was having difficulty including problems with one of its suppliers. The creation of the joint venture allowed the best of both worlds. The experience and market share of Ericsson and the additional expertise of the large electronics company,Sony Corporation.
The company has a number of smartphones on the market and has released its first Android powered phone the XPERIA X10.
