Nokia Mobile Phones
Nokia is a Finnish company and has,for a long time,being one of the major mobile handset manufacturers. Its headquarters is in Keilaniemi near the capital Helsinki.
Although Nokia is now known as a Mobile Phones company with it’s famous slogan,“Connecting People”, it has a varied past which takes it through many different industries and begins in 1865 making it over 100 years old. Nokia was originally incepted as a groundwood pulp mill by Fredrik Idestam and started manufacturing paper and when it set up at a second site near the town of Nokia,Statesman Leo Mechelin,Idestams friend helped turn it into a share company called the Nokia Company.
After Idestam’s retirement,the company went into electricity generation in 1902. The company went on to trade in rubber products such as galoshes and cables for electric and telephone. In 1967 the different companies that made up the trading in these goods merged to form Nokia Corporation. Nokia Corporation went on over time to trade in,paper,tyres,footwear,cable,televisions,computer,robotics,military communications,chemicals and a number of other goods. It was in the 1990s that Nokia sold all non telecommunications businesses and concentrated on becoming solely a telecommunications business.
In 2006 Nokia and Siemens AG merged their network equipment businesses to create Nokia Siemens. Nokia aquired Navtec in 2007. Navtec provides digital map data for car navigation,mobile navigation devices and internet mapping apps. Map data from Navtec is used in the online service Nokia Maps.
Nokia’s online services brand is called Ovi which allows you to access your files from anywhere,administrate your contacts,view maps,buy games and apps,communicate,buy music and share photos and video.
