Apple iPhone 4S

The Apple iPhone 4s is the latest version of Apple’s increasingly popular iphone. The 4s comes in two colours, black and white. It’s heigh is 115.2 mm (4.5 inches), width is 58.6 mm (2.31 inches), depth is 9.3 mm (0.37 inches) and it weighs 140 grams (4.9 ounces).

The iphone 4s is the first iphone to have the built in assistant called Siri.

Siri works by voice activation and allows you to ask your iPhone to complete tasks. You could ask Siri to tell someone you’ll be late and it will send them a text saying you will be late; or you could ask Siri if you need hat and gloves when going out to the shop and it will bring up the weather. It has been programmed to be intelligent and understand what you are saying more than you would previously expect. You don’t need to ask it to send a text or ask it to show you the weather directly.

Camera

The iPhone 4s has an improved 8 megapixel camera from the iPhone 4 which had only 5 megapixels. The Camera stil has autofocus, tap to flash, led flash and backlight illumination sensor but also has a 5 instead of 4 element lens aswell as face detection ability. It still features the front camera with VGA resolution.

Video recording

The video recording ability has been improved to 1080p 30fps, the iPhone 4 only offers 720p 30fps. The 4s still has tap to focus whilst recording and an LED light but also has video stabalisation.

The 4s still offers Face-Time video calling to any FaceTime-enabled device over Wi-Fi.

Capacity

The iPhone 4s offers 16, 32 or 64GB capacity.

Battery Life

The battery life has improved with talk time up from 7 hours on 3G to 8 hours; whilst remaining 14 hours on 2G (Gsm). Standbytime has decreased from 300 hours to 200 hours.

Samsung Galaxy S II

The Galaxy S II is the updated version of the Samsung Galaxy S; it uses a Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system. Like its predecessor it has a full touch screen display.

Sizes

The dimensions of the Galaxy S II are 66.1 x 125.3 x 8.49mm, it weighs 116g. The Galaxy S II has a Super AMOLED Plus screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 and a size of 4.27″.

Battery life

The battery life is good on this phone and lasts Up to 1100min (2G), up to 520min (3G), up to 220min (VT Call) with a stand by time of Up to 710Hr (2G), up to 610Hr (3G)

The Galaxy S II camera has a resolution of 8MP and a Digital zoom. It has an LED flash, auto focus and the following shot modes: Single Shot, Beauty Shot, Smile Shot, Panorama Shot, Action Shot, Cartoon Shot.

Samsung Galaxy S

The Samsung Galaxy S measures 122.4mm high x 64.2mm wide x 9.9mm thick and uses the Android 2.1 (Eclair) operating system. The display size is 4.0″. The battery offers Up to 803min (2G), up to 393min (3G) of talk time and Up to 750hrs (2G), up to 576hrs (3G) of stand by time.

Samsung Tocco Lite

The Samsung Tocco Lite is a touch screen phone and offers a 3″ 262K Colour TFT Screen. It allows for talk time of 600 mins and a standby of 700 hours. The camera on the Tocco Lite is 3.2 MP with digital zoom; it has multi, normal, timer and mosaic shot modes.

This phone has FM radio capability. If you are wanting to keep in contact it has POP3 / SMTP / IMAP4 email functions.
The user memory is 50MB and the external memory can be upto 8GB with a MicroSD card.

The Tocco Lite weighs in at 92g and its size is 104 x 53 x 11.9mm.

On first using this phone you need to remember that it is touch screen and so can be quite sensitive when it is in your pocket or bag. The screen lock facility is easy to activate by pressing a button on the phones side. It then locks very quickly. To unlock it again this button needs holding down for a number of seconds which minimizes any unwanted unlocking in your pocket.

The screen is very responsive to touch so you shouldn’t have any problems navigating around. The main screen has a shortcut menu down one side which you can drag your most used items onto. At the bottom of the screen 3 icons are showm which are:

1. Keypad
2. Phonebook
3. Menu.

When selecting “Menu” you are taken your Main Menu, looking like the main menu on previous samsung phones, showing: call log, phonebook, music, messages etc. There is a second tab at the top right which takes you to 3 more screens, these can be accessed by just clicking the screen at the bottom.

These menu screens are titled:

1. Communications; offering links to Facebook, Myspace, Google etc.
2 Tools; showing calender, calculator, bluetooth etc.
3. Multimedia; showing radio, games, music etc.

The Tocco Lite is a neat, light easy to handle phone with a good battery life and a good camera. A number of phone cases are on the market as are screen protectors.
